Constructing Their Own Art

On one Friday afternoon performers Johnny Oah, Ashley Prince, and Sean DeCrescenzo took the stage at the Connection Drop-in Center as performers.

Johnny played the ukulele and sang cover songs from Mumford & Sons, White Blank Page, to Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s, Over the Rainbow. Johnny had the privilege of playing for Monarch High School’s graduation and sang at The Connection for practice. It was his first performance as a musician.

Ashley and Sean were no strangers to The Connection. They played once before and many came for support. They both belong to the band, Cooler than Kyle, and have played for numerous venues including Broomstock. They performed covers such as Zombie by the Cranberries as well as their own songs like Colorblind. Ashley also attended Monarch High School with Johnny and was friends.

After the concert, all students participated in painting bags for Project Angel Heart for their meal delivery service for terminally ill people. All bags went from bland brown to creative canvases of color. Everyone went home content from listening to great music and volunteering for a wonderful cause.

Rapids Visit

Wells Thompson, a player for the MLS 2010 Champioship winning team the Colorado Rapids, visited The Connection this spring. He shared about his rising career in soccer from high school to the championship. Additionally, he talked through the struggles he faced in high school with encouragement for the teens.

Summer Closing

The Connection has closed for the summer. We are in talks to relocate closer to the high school. We are excitedly planning for the next year of The Connection and can’t wait to meet the new students.
